I have a nikon D40, the lense im using 18-55m. how can i change to manual focus?

If it's the lens in the lens kit, then there's a switch on the lens itself marked 'A' and 'M' (for auto and manual, respectively)

shouldnt be too much to it - on the lens itself there should be a little switch labelled AF - MF, swith it to MF and you should be able to rotate the focus on the lens (not the zoom, the other one)
