  1. If you are using the Nikon D40 built in flash, the widest flash coverage it has is around 20mm to 24mm. Fish eye lenses are wider than 20mm - 24mm so if you take a picture fo a subject, the 20mm is lit and the sides will be dark. Look at page 98 of the D40 manual that i linked here so you can see the maximum coverage of the flash. YOu may want to use some sort of wide angle adapter for the flash to make it wider.


  2. If you are referring to the shadow around the lens, that is called vignetting. You might have to pull out a little with the zoom to prevent it if has a zoom. Most likely the fish eye lens conversion is little bit smaller for the lens.
