I have a nintendo wifi usb thing.can this be used as a access point to get on the internet?

Here you get a wireless router.  This router is also powerline enabled, and it comes with an adapter.  I recommend hooking up the nintendo to the powerline.  It is really simple to do so.  Then when you buy a new laptop, you will also have a wireless access point.

Powerline is a better technology for video game consoles.  Powerline has less latency and less prone to security vulnerabilities.  Setting up security in powerline is as simple as accessing both devices and typing in a password.  With wifi, you have to go into the router, choose what type of authentication to use (WEP, WPA, WPA2), choose what type of encryption (TKIP, AES), change your SSID, disable SSID broadcast, and enable MAC filtering.  With powerline, you simply type in a password to lock it down.

Keep in mind though, even if you don't have any devices connected to your wireless router, you still need to lock it down or just turn off the wireless completely.

Again, powerline has these advantages:

ease of setup

less prone to security vulnerabilities

less latency (leads to less jitter and freezing in your games)
