I have a nissan cefiro (1993) wont start.?? help!!

When i turn the key it just clicks, igniton lights come on, but little else happens, we've tryed jump starting it in case it was the battery but when turned the key it just did nothing again, its done it for a while but sometimes it starts! grr please help sum1!!!!!

If your happy that you have fully charged batterys, try holding the key in the the start postion and wriggle the gear shift in and out of park if it's an auto. It may have a faulty inhibitor switch.

Otherwise stand with your head under the bonnet and get someone to try and start it. If the clicking noise comes from the starter motor region then you most likely have worn out brushes. The pull-in winding of the solenoid earths thru the brushes which why you may not be starting. Common problem with Hitachi and Mitsubishi perminant magnet starters with high k's.

Thsi problem doesnt occur over nite, what was the vehicle doing before this problem occured?

Does the vehicle turn over when you manuel turn over with a socket at the crankshaft? To make sure the engine has not seized, does the head lites operate when you turn the key on with the head lites?

Normally something has happened or was happening when this vehicle will not start now.

The only good thing about this it's happening now, and should be easy to trace the problem.

If you have AAA call them, and have them look at the vehicle: they are pretty good on site estimaters on site for the cause of the problem.

If not a member its cheap to become a member within hours, and can save you hundreds of dollars for the fast member ship. Have been a mechanic for over 25 years and I have AAA, and I also drive vehicle's now which are covered under a Factory Warranty, a great service when you break down, locked out, leave keys in vehicle when running, and run out of fuel, and or a flat tire.
