I have a non-US drivers lience will that work in the US?

If not can I get a US drivers lience? I'm looking for a job as an au-pair the couple like me but need a person with a drivers lience.

  1. Get a international driver's license.  But eventually you will have to get a valid USA driver's license.  If you have a valid work permit in USA you can easily get a USA license.

    You might even be able to transfer you license (if it is international license) - after a  written test (usa).

I used to live in europe and had an international license that was good all over the world.  If you were to rent a car your license would be okay, but if your going to reside you may have to get a US license.  I would think that as long as you have an address and a workers visa you could get one easily enough.

  3. A foreign license is recognized in the US for short stays for tourism or business.  Some states require an International Driving Permit with it, especially if your license isn't in English.

    If you take up residency in the US or get a job, you need a local license.
