Question:

I have a one gallon tank for my small hermit crab, is that okay?

I have set a crabitat with substrate, plastic plants, one water dish with a sponge, a food dish, I purchased water conditioner and I bought a heater aswell, I have a crab house aswell. I still have yet to purchase a thermometer. Everything seems fine my crabs very active however, is it okay If i have a small crab in a one gallon tank?

  1. No, that is much too small.  A 10 gallon is a good size for a hermie.  They like to move around a lot and are very active.  Here's my favorite hermie site:

  2. It's way too small for all your things plus hermit crabs. The minimum housing is a 10 gallon with a glass or plexi glass lid. hermit crabs shouldn't be housed alone either. 1 gallon doesn't give them any room to roam around or moult

  3. I had hermit crabs so long ago but that seems fine. You need to make sure that you have also an extra shell that is a little bit bigger then their current one because they will grow out of it. If you do not supply that then they will climb out and die...:( Also its fun to take your crab out of the tank and let it run around on the floor, they love to crawl!

  4. It's fine for now.  You will need a bigger tank as he grows.

    A 10 gallon tank is much better.
