I have a panasonic dvd player, how will the switch to blu ray affect me in terms of renting dvds in the future

  2. I wouldn't worry about it quite yet. There are still not a lot of BluRay DVDs available so, rental stores are not going to switch overnight. They'll wait until there are more titles available and many more machines in peoples homes.

  3. A non- HD(hi-def) DVD player does not support Blu-Ray format. A Blu-Ray DVD will not play on a regular DVD player.  Non-HD DVDs will remain available at least for a while. If you buy a Blu-Ray player your old DVDs will play on it.

  4. For the immediate future there will be no affect at all. All vendors will continue to sell and rent movies in the traditional DVD format.  There are no immediate plans to move away from DVD, and I imagine it will be standard for the next several years as not everyone has a HD television, or blu-ray player.
