  1. You did not provide a link to the specs of your Panisonic unit so I am only guessing. However, going from a Pana sub to a Sony sub is almost like going from the frying pan into the fire. Sony makes some excellent displays but they are very poor in the audio department and even worse in speakers. A good audio amp is rated at 0.05%THD. Sony rates many of their systems at 10%THD! Anything greater than 1%THD is considered too audible to be useful.

You MAY be able to take an output from your Pana to a sub-woofer but you may not. That is the problem with HTIBs. They lack many of the standard inputs and outputs and prevent you from having a clear upgrade path. To say Pana is a "little weak" is a gross understatement.

The question is do you want to do it properly or do you want to keep suffering with poor sound and even poorer low end? Due to falling prices you can put together an entry level separate component system for under $1000.

If you insist on continuing to use the Pana as the centerpiece of your system you can look for a powered sub-woofer with speaker level inputs and outputs and that will improve your low end some.

But if you want something you can really build on you want a separate component system.
