Question:

I have a park avenue buick that wont come out of park.

i get in start the car, put my foot on the break, let up the e break. and with my foot on the break pull the shifter.

but it wont move

ive had other people try who are stronger but they are afraid they will break it.

why is it stuck in park

  1. If the gear shifter won't pull down, there is a little metal tab that keeps the car in park until the ignition is turned on. This tab is stuck. You can remove the steering column covers and find this tab. Turn the key on and off to see if it releases. (the tab will be at the base of the shifter.) If you have an older Park Ave. with a metal column, try rocking the car back and forth while trying to get it out of gear. Just be sure to have your foot on the brake just in case.  


  2. That is why they call it PARK avenue.  

  3. you didn't say what year, so I'm gonna guess it's a newer one. the brake light switch has a seperate part ti it that releases the shifter when brake is applied. Try changing that.
