I was cleaning the bathrooms in my home and was using a chemical for the tile that contains bleach. When I first started using it, it didn't have a strong smell and I only had a little bit of difficulty when I was extremely close ( <2 feet away.). The directions are to let stand for 5 minutes, so I went to do other things and came back and the smell in the bathroom with my tarantula was so overwhelming! I quickly rushed her out, and couldn't stay in long enough to even finish washing the stuff off. I know that she is supposed to be very sensitive to chemicals, and I want to know if I should prepare myself for her to die...

  1. Definitely call the vet to be sure. I wouldn't freak out or blame yourself though. Next time, turn on the bathroom fan way before you start cleaning. I always have to do that.

  2. A vet won't be able to do anything for a tarantula.

You moved her, so that's a good thing. Bleach is generally toxic, and will kill your tarantula if the concentrations are high enough. Keep her in a well ventilated area that sees little traffic in your house and hope for the best. It is a good idea to check to see if your substrate smells of bleach, as it could have absorbed some of it out of the air. If it does, put the tarantula into a large cup or anything that is clean and can't crawl out of, dump the dirt, rinse the cage well, and replace the dirt with new dirt.

  3. YES!!! You should of killed that bug earlier....get a real pet like a dog!!! Im petrified of spiders!!!
