I have a phone jack in one room can i convert that to an internet jack?

I need this internet jack to be able to hook up xbox live

The wireless router from the other answerer is probably the best idea.  You can't use a regular phone jack with old 4-wire phone cable on it.  You'd need an RJ-45 connector with cat 5 cable for internet, then you'd have to find the other end of it to connect to your router.  It's really not all that much work, but you need to know what you're doing and it should be your own house.  If you're a renter the landlord might not appreciate something like that.

if you are asking can the phone line be converted to an ethernet jack .. no  ( I assume you are not using dial up)

You have to run a cable from your modem through to your room ( though walls etc.)

Don't know about xboxes but if they can handle wireless you

could install a wireless router
