What are some tips you could give me, on how to apply it and prep work and how long before I can stain it? These gouges are really deep, will this work?

  1. Get some Famowood wood putty, it comes in different colors which helps match the type of wood the piece is made out of and it takes stain well. After you putty it, let it dry and sand it. As soon as its sanded you will be able to stain it.

  2. will it work NO. the patches will stick out like a sore thumb. If the piece is new and unstained, try to steam out the dents first. if that does not work either live with it or get rid of it.

if it is solid wood just sand them away, but if its veneer be very careful as is very very thin and sanding will go right Thur

  3. You can fill the gouges but the filller will still look like wood filler that has been stained. If the gouges are deep and not wide then there won't be as much of a problem. Just follow the directions on the wood fiiler.

  4. If the piece is not antique, then I say go ahead with your project. If it produces undesirable results, then take the top completely off and replace it with a new piece of lumber!
