I have recently spotted a plant growing out of the exterior wall of the flat I live in - is this actually dangerous for the wall? I believe it is a buddleia - the urban invasive kind unfortunately.

  1. Spray it with RoundUp - it will kill it to the roots - do it now before it gets too big and starts to break up the mortar joints to badly

  2. It will gradually break the crust of the wall, but nothing serious. I recommend that you remove it as soon as possible.

  3. no plants should be allowed to thrive by growing out of any wall unless it is part of an old unused  outside garden wall .

the plant will push its roots deeper seeking water etc and will over time destabilise the wall bonding and structure. repairs can be very expensive. use a weed killer now and  have the wall looked at for repointing etc. to prevent further attacks.

  4. thats sorta dangerous because it could break your wall

  5. If you don't want it there, get rid of it a.s.a.p. The longer it's there, the more roots will grow into the wall. As pretty as they can look, they can do damage to the walls over time.

  6. If you ever have a plant growing anywhere besides out of the ground it's never a good thing.  I suggest trying to block it from getting light, such as covering it with a black trash bag.  This will block the plant from photosynthesizing and will cook the plant like an oven.  Try it out.

  7. Not good. Anytime a plant grows out of a crack or space in a structure it will create more problems. As the plant grows it pushes on the walls of the crack or seem making it bigger. It also leaves organic material behind it encouraging future plants to live in the same spot.

  8. well the plant is growing out of the wall due to the roots being there this isnt dangerous but something will have to be done as it will ruin your wall.

    try a weed killer  )
