I have a plasma tv that has lost its picture i can still hear the sound though, anyone know why?

Make sure you're not switched to one of the Audio Video outputs A/V select

check all scart / video connectors to the plasma to see if they are plugged in ok, try different Av equipment to see it works. If you dont get any image, not even the on-screen display menus , just a blank screen without any power then the digital driver board is busted and it will be a costly repair, depending on what model plasma you have. if you have a LCD display, not a plasma it will be the inverter board to the backlight thats faulty
