I would think that there is some type of pump or something that we could use. Has anyone ever done this before? I'm just trying to cut down on the cost, because we have to replace the filter and we can't get around that cost.

  1. If this is an in-ground pool there should be a drain in the floor in the deep end. It could be under a round white cover. Make sure it is open and use the drain setting on top of the filter.

You could even go to a tool rental place and rent a sump pump and hose and just drain it yourself.

  2. open drain valve

  3. just go to your local skatepark, find the oldest dude there that is actually riding a board(knee&elbow pads are usally a good indicator). Tell him your dilema, and he'll know how or will know a few people that'll be more than happy to drain your pool for free. well almost  free, they will probably drink all your beer and be skating the empty pit when you're not home. but that's a small price to pay. or you can rent water pumps in a variety of capacities. just do it on the weekend and/or at night so you dont get in any trouble,or be seen by any skaters....but seriously, some cities have restrictions on what can enter storm drains.

  4. I don't see any reason you would need to drain a pool to replace the filter.

If you really do need to drain, your options will depend upon if it is above ground or in ground.

You can drain an above ground pool by using the sweeper hose to siphon the water out.  Put the hose in the pool and fill it with water.  Hold your hand over one end and quickly pull the end out and lay it on the ground.  Remove your hand and the water will flow out.

For either type of pool, you should be able to rent a pump and hose at any tool rental store.  Let them know what you need to do and they will help you out.

You may check with your fire department.  Some will come and pump for you.  Don't be offended if they say no, but it is worth asking.

  5. 1)Turn on your pump filter and open the drain valve and this will drain your pool.

    Or

2)You can get a long hose or a couple of them. Put one end in the bottom of the pool and the other at a lower location, like the street and start a siphoning action and this will drain your pool.

  6. reset your pumps to empty and thats it
