They often will not obey when I ask them to sit down or they refuse to participate in what we are doing. Lots of roaming about the room. Since I am with them for such a short time, I need to set the tone for discipline quickly but don't want to crush their spirits either. This session lasts for 8 weeks. Help!

  1. My son is in a similar class, and I noticed the teacher wasn't willing to adapt her lesson plan to the children's interest in the classroom environment. The children wouldn't sit still or listen. I kept hoping she would make a game out of searching the room for things, like doing a safari, or something like that.

A drama class involves improv, and that's something the teacher can do to! I approached a previous teacher and told her about my son's interests, and she devoted almost an entire class to superheroes, just to get him more involved. Try speaking with the parents after class, or email them to learn more about the children. I am sure you will have them captivated in no time!

    Good luck!

  2. I hate to say this but 75 min. is a long time for a preschooler. They can't pay attention that long so you need to break it up a little and make it REALLY interactive.  If you are telling a story use props and don't expect them to sit the entire time, or be still or quiet.  Use all of these to your advantage.  Get them involved and it will be better for all of you.
