  1. Google for info.

  2. Spain is many countries all rolled into one therefore the culture in Spain is very varied and interesting. Its Atlantic shores and the huge plains of the interior have very distinct characteristics. Similarly, the Mediterranean Costa's change ‘flavour’ as they sweep down from the Pyrenees through the pine forests.

The cuisine of Spain is amazingly varied. The gastronomy varies by region dramatically.

The gastronomy in Spain is heavily influenced by the different cultures which have passed through the Iberian peninsula: Roman, Visigoth, and Arabic. Other major influences are the Phoenicians, the Greeks and important events such as the discovery of the Americas. For this, Spanish cooking is rich in flavour and aromas.

See http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/index.htm for information on Spain maps etc

  3. The running of the bulls is cool.  So is La Tomatina.  I also love Don Quixote.  You could discuss the Spanish royal family.

  4. the soccer team probably...if the people you are presenting to are interseted in soccer, spain has an ecellent soccer team...

  5. Take your class through a typical bullfight!

Its one of the "most recognised and least understood" (you can use that phrase) traditions in Spanish culture. As was said google it however I can also recomend my own page on the subject :

    http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/madrid...

Get all the information you can. You may also want to mention that bullrings are used for a number of other activities eg concerts in the plaza de toros Madrid, Basketball in the southern Madrid bullring. This is not restricted to Madrid. Bullrings in small villages form the central part of their celebrations and are seen more as an area where large numbers can congregate easily & safely.

    Good luck with the presentation!

  6. the struggle of the basque people, ETA

  7. why spain had so many colonies in the past. Spanish is the secound world spread language in the world. tell your teacher why it happened to be that way

  8. i think royalty is always interesting, especially to americans. you can discuss how the prince of spain married a commoner, a tv anchor woman, and now she is the first commoner in line to be spain's queen in hundreds of years.

  9. If you choose the bullfighting topic, please remember to include the "anti-taurino"  (anti-bullfighting) NGOs and even political parties in Spain.  Animal rights are a current issue here, so you might want to include the "galgos" (greyhounds) and in general, the lack of animal rights here.  We are working on it slowly, but it's hard to change centuries of mentality overnight.

  10. Issues in Spain?

    Wow... that's a good one!

Town Halls are being investigated for fraude and emitting illegal building licences (Mostly in the Marbella area)

The basque terrorist organization ETA has agreed a cease-fire with the government.

    FIESTAS:

las FALLAS in Valencia is quite different and nice to speak about. Fallas are creations of papier mache, wood and wax, which the townsfolk of Valencia build in the streets and burn on the night of the feast of St. Joseph.

The night of SAN JUAN, 23rd of June, witches are known to appear on this longest night of the year. Midsummer night is the night of miracles and enchantments. You have to jump over the fire an odd number of times, grill sardines and drink wine and, of course have a midnight dip in the sea.

The festival "Fiesta de Moros y Cristianos" in any village, where some groups of neighbours represent the Moores and go off to fight against the Christians. Big in ALCOY (ALICANTE).

SEMANA SANTA (holy week = Easter) Sevilla’s celebration is likely the most famous in the world. Catholic Processions of penitents in the streets. VERY IMPORTANT IN SPAIN!!!

Of course, the bull run in PAMPLONA, the TOMATINA in BUÑOL, but you already knew that.

My head is hurting, Good luck

    ;)

  11. What about traditional foods.  What they are and when they are eaten.  What customs go along with them.

  12. Spanish Civil War, in my opinion, is one of the most interesting wars in history and would make for a very intriguing presentation.  Although it could get lengthy.
