Question:

I have a printer from HP that won't print in color...?

My "HP Deskjet 3745" printer (which uses a number 27 black ink cartridge, and a number 28 color ink cartridge) won't print anything in color anymore.

I've been trying to print things in color for two weeks now, but every time I put the color cartridge in, the light on the printer starts flashing (indicating that there is something wrong) and it starts freezing my computer, as well as pausing all documents for printing.

There is also an error message that pops up:

"PROBLEM WITH THE Tri-Color PRINT CARTRIDGE"

To solve the problem:

1. Remove the print cartridge.

2. Re-insert the print cartridge.

"If the problem persists, Replace the print cartridge"

I've already tried all of that over and over, however both color cartridges that I've been using were used before, and I don't have any new ones.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  1. a lot of cartridges have electronic chips in them. sounds like your chip is junk.  time to get a new color cartridge

  2. * If you've used the cartridge a lot, try getting it refilled with more ink (is cheaper than buying new one).

    * Check your printing settings in the box before you click the print button - check that it is going to print in colour.

    * Clean around the copper part of the cartridge and the same on the printer, ink on this can mean the printer thinks the cartridge isn't in because there's no contact between the two.

    * After putting the cartridge in,  remember press the restart button

*If all else fails, buy a new catridge ;]]

  3. Try a new cartridge.

Cartridges do expire, there will be a date stamp above the electronic strip on the back of the cartridge.

You need to replace your cartridge.

  4. Take damp paper towel and clean copper contacts of the ink  cartridges, turn the cartridge upside down you will copper contacts.

  5. I think you may have a faulty ink cartridge. But check with the people who should know.

Go to their site. It is a free service 24/7

Then lower left click Support and troubleshooting

    Then upper right, contact HP

Here you have a choice of email or live chat support (Via computer) They are fast in responding

  6. It may be that the leads on the cartridge have become damaged.  Look at the bottom of the cartridge.  Is any of the "gold" covering ripped on damaged in any way?

Try turning off the printer and resetting it after you install the color cartridge back in the system, before you try to print.
