  1. when the facial nerve is damaged, the motor fibers to the facial muscles on that side of the face don't work as well. Makes it hard to smile on that side, the nasolacrimal fold is less evident, crows feet lines are less evident... there's less muscle tone.  But since the muscles don't work 'right', the blink reflexes on that side don't work right either, and the lid won't move to clean the cornea as it should. That eye will become dry and irritated and will have reflex tearing.  That's why you are noticing the increase in tears.

you either have to find a surgeon that will help with the muscle or can help with the eye..... to keep it moist. Some people do tarrsorraphy where the edge of the eyelids are sewed together... about the outer third. When you blink the eye will move up and under the lower lid and get wiped clean. May stop the irritation.  Some eye drops that last a LONG time might help, such as Refresh PM, or Celluvisc, or in a pinch, just place a little Vaseline inside the lower lid and that will keep the ocular surface from drying out.
