I have a problem when playing in a soccer/football match..?

Its rather simple, I've never had this problem before it just started this year. But it seems whenever I get to the ball I lose vision of the field and feel very confined into one space. Like there will be a body/defender a foot or two away wherever I turn or pass.

I'm not looking down at the ball though while dribbling.

Im in a mental slump and don't know whats wrong

  1. I had exactly the same problem couple of years ago mate. Like you've described, I sort of lost my vision of the bigger picture and could only think about the five yards or so in front of me. As a defender that led me to just booting it whenever I got it at my feet, which isn't exactly great. The way I conquered it was just making sure I look up and take in the whole of the field for a second or two, and just go for it...forget about making a mistake and just make that pass! or take on that player! It's really hard to get across how you can conquer it, but it's not as big a problem as you think...one match the problem will be gone and you'll be able to play your normal game. All I can say is don't worry about making mistakes because it isn't that big a deal :)

  2. I'm not 100% sure but this sounds like anxiety... it can happen when the adrenaline rush gets too much..

you just have to concentrate, don't over think and just be decisive. when you plan on doing something with the ball, just go through with it even if you feel confined and soon enough you'll be able to do it again like normal. It's probably just a phase.

  3. When you get the ball, especially in the midfield, there isn't a lot of time and you may be afraid to take the time to look around and see the field. You should always be looking everywhere on the field before you get the ball so you know where everything is behind you. Also, looking up actually buys you some time because defenders don't know whether you will dribble or pass, short or long. When you get the ball, first try to switch the field. If nothing's open, go back and things will have opened up. Just make the easiest pass until you get more comfortable.
