My disk drive C has 39 GB capacity but there has been a few mysterious things going on. I know that I have limited applications and games installed in there but the memory used up is higher than its supposed to be. My HD is being filled up for an unknown reason. I try using disk cleanup but there is no significant effect. I also got rid of the files that might have been doubled. The only thing I suspect is the automatic updates in my computer from Microsoft, but I'm not sure about it. I also have a mysterious problem when launching the My Computer icon- sometimes it would take a minute to launch the My Computer window please help.

  1. you'll find it's all the System Restore points taking up the space on your drive .... right click My Computer-Properties-System Restore ... and "check" the box Turn Off System Restore ... click APPLY ...when the little egg timer has done it's dance ... Uncheck the box to turn the System Restore back on and click OK ... then check the space on your drive again

  2. It could really be one of a million different things.  A good way to find out what is using all the space is to right click on some folders > select properties > look at the space used of the folder.  Looking in your program files would be a good start, but a temporary folder may also be the problem.

Also, go to your control panel's add/remove and look at the sizes of all your programs.

  3. A 40GB drive is pretty small by todays standards. You say you have a limited number of apps and games installed, and that could be your problem. Games routinely use 4GB or more EACH these days, with other apps often using a GB or more. Then theres your OS which uses a couple of GB, and all the files, photos, music, movies and other data you've probably got lying around... it all adds up, and 40GB is very easy to fill.

  4. =>Double click on Drive C icon in my computer

=>There would be a folder named "Windows" or something similar on which ur windows must be installed.

=>Right click this folder and select Properties

=>There will be the total space used up on disk.

If its a good amt(few Gigs) then ur windows is the main culprit.

  5. u can call and ask for help i know that when my laptop had problems dell told me that i can buy more memory for my computer so you may wanna try that
