  1. to boot OS frm a  CD, it should be in a bootable disc format

  2. Did you have a dual boot setup before you tried - as in 2 partitions with different BIOS boot orders? If you did, then check the BIOS on both partitions. If you didn't have a dual boot - ignore this solution, go to next one:

Change BIOS boot order back to normal and....

Check your optical CD drive to make sure it's actually working. Put in an CD with an EXE file and see if it'll execute at all. If it does.....

Insert the  recovery CD, go into Safe Mode w/out networking. And open the boot disk from within My Computer. It's if-y that might work, but it's worth a try.

Last option before smashing the Acer to bits *jk* - go to your Recovery Partition and look for the Recovery Manager and execute from there. Since I don't know which OS you're on, I can't give step by step instructions on where it's located. If not on the Recovery Partition, it could be under Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

  3. For a computer to boot from the cd the disc has to have an executable file (.exe) that takes the information on the disc into the system. Your recovery cd doesnt contain that file.Use the operating system disc if you want to reformat your computer.
