Whenever i unplug it from the power source (on a 100%) charge.. it says it goes on reserve battery and shuts down within a minute and won't power back on. How can i change this? Like i said it has a 100% charge.

  1. Basically - your battery has no charge left.

Go to google, search for coconut battery.  Download this.

What this application does it tell you what percent of your battery you have left.  Let's say your original capacity 5400 mAh.  Your current capacity may be something more like 0 mAh.  Basically, batteries are like used tires.  The capacity is like the tread on a tire - eventually it's gunna be all gone and you are going to need a new one.

Ways to preserve your battery are easy.  Don't plug your computer in until you need to.  Wait until the lower percent (like 5 or lower) until it shuts down - then plug it in.  When you plug it, the electricity tries to power it ALL quickly.  You have to train it like a dog - batteries have memory.  If you plug it in at 50 percent a lot, it will wear down fast because you are telling it that full capacity is the space between 50 percent and 100 percent.

If you are still under limited warranty Apple will give you a new one.  Otherwise, you're buying a new battery - because you can't change it.  It's just old and pretty much dead.

  2. My old iBook did the same thing.  The battery doesn't hold the charge anymore.  It goes from 100% to 95%, then shuts off.  I bought a new battery and it works fine now.  My MacBook hasn't done that yet.  Apple doesn't make great batteries.
