one of my kids flushed something down the toilet and it started to overflow.there was no way of removing the obstruction on my own so i thought it was a good idea to get a new toilet,it was time to update anyway.i went and bought one of those toilets that flush a bunch of golf ball, marbles ect....so i put it up,well my hubby did and the water is still overflowing.so my hubby removed the toilet and we checked that there wasn't anything in the pipe, but atlas there was nothing,so he got a bucket full of water and poured it down the pipe and sure enough the water drained.i don't understand what is going on,does anyone know what the problem could be??i could really use someones opinion on the matter.that you i reaaly appreciate it.jessica h.

  1. There must be an obstruction further down in the pipe.

You can rent a snake which will reach down into the pipe and help you to dislodge whatever is blocking it or you can a plumber who will also use a longer, more effective snake.

The problem as you now know is not the toilet, it has to be a clog in the line.

Are any other toilets also backing up? If the upstairs toilet is backing up and a downstairs one is not it might suggest where the clog is.(between floors). If it is the downstairs toilet backing up the blockage is in the pipe beneath the house.

Either case a long snake should remove it.

    Hope this helps.

  2. vent may be stopped up, how to check; put toilet back on, fill tank, flush, if still stopped up, lift side of toilet to allow some air in, if flushes, vent is stopped up. Try running alot of water thru tub or shower, if drain is stopped up or partially stopped up, it will eventually fill up to toilet flange

  3. jess

run the garden hose inside and run water down the drain be sure you can turn it off if it backs up. you need 2 people.

if it does its clogged you will need a snake. draino only works on 11/2 to 2 inch pipes the pipe you have there is a 4 inch dont waste you money there on draino.the reason it took the bucket of water is between the time you pulled the kmod back up it drained what was in the pipe. plumbers call this a partial clog. more than likely break the old kmod and see if the toy is in it if not its down the drain.

  4. There is possibly something down the toilet drain and when your husband poured the water down it allowed for air to escape enabling the flush.  When the toilet is on the air does not escape as well.. Get a pipe snake and try that.
