i'm 18, and ever since i can remember, my mom/a few teachers complained about me being too lazy, disorganized, and daydreamy. i exhibit most of the signs of the inattentive subtype.

however, i don't really have sloppy handwriting...i mean, it's tiny and thin, but it's legible.

i like to watch movies, although i go from focusing to not focusing at all.

i like to doodle in class...but that's not characteristic of inattentive

adhd, is it?

  1. You don't have ADHD, you possibly could have ADD. theres a big difference.

  2. No my 16 yr old son has ADHD and everyone doessnot understand that you guys have a special gift of being extremley focused and are perfectionist at thingsof interest. See if your mom can get u tested to c if u r a visual, audio, learner. My son is visual so once the teachers or  even me if I show him he grasps it fast.He daydreams to in school,& sometimes falls asleep in class. Beleive it or not u r really a gifted kid

  3. Maybe ADHD, maybe not.  Sometimes people just need to grow up and take responsibility for their results of school and life in general.  I'd get a professional assessment and help above all.  You can't expect your parents to support you all your life, and your success in life resides in managing to become a responsible, contributing human being.  Hard to do when you're doing badly in school and pacing the floor at social situations, etc.

To put it in perspective, watching TV is a passive activity that doesn't require much effort, so it's easy to lose focus.  Try doing things that require more purposely attention, like reading.  Set "baby step"goals - read for 15 minutes at a time, then increase the time before you can take a break to do something else.

You don't need to go through life using this diagnosis as a crutch when you can learn to control yourself.

  4. Every one of us has some characteristics of ADHD whether it be restlesness or a difficult time paying attention. The biggest question is can you get your work done? If you can pass classes in school fine, do your homework accordingly, do your job at work then it is nothing to worry about. If you fail at doing the things expected of you because you cannnot focus enough to start and finish a task then I would see a doctor (psychiatrist) and have him prescribe you a medication to help you with this. Ritalin, straterra, aderall are all great medications for this and people usually find great improvement afterwards. I hope this helps.
