Where do Avatars come from? I mean, are they born like normal human beings? If they are, shouldn't they have parents?

  1. nooooo, they are kinda just created of purely power in the limitations of a human body. The spirit of the avatar is the same one, it just moves from one generation to another...i think.

  2. basically they are reincarnated

  3. I think that as soon as the current Avatar dies, the next child to be born of the chosen tribe will gain the powers of the avatar.

  4. From what I gathered, Avatars are born into regular families. There is always an Avatar - as soon as one dies, another is born. They also alternate between the elements: if the first Avatar was a Firebender, the second Avatar was an Earthbender, and the third Avatar was a Waterbender, then the fourth Avatar would be an Airbender. I think I remember them explaining that when a baby is born, a hundred different toys are set in front of the baby, and the baby gets to choose four. The reason they know the child is an Avatar is because the Avatar always chooses the same four toys. They hide this knowledge until the Avatar is 15, and then they tell him/her and they send him/her off to develop the gift.

    Hope that helps.

  5. The Avatar is the spirit of the planet reincarnated in human form and master of all four elemental bending disciplines (Airbending, Waterbending, Earthbending and Firebending), whose task it is to keep balance among the four nations of the world. The Avatar is also a link between the human world and the Spirit World. Throughout the ages, countless incarnations of the Avatar have served to maintain harmony in the world.

At any time there is only a single Avatar, who is the spirit of the world incarnated into human form. When the Avatar dies, the Avatar Spirit is reincarnated into a newborn, who becomes the next Avatar.

Each nation has a method of recognizing the new Avatar. Among the Air Nomads, this involved presenting all infants with a selection of toys to play with, and watching for a child that selected four specific toys that had belonged to past Avatars, called the Four Avatar Relics. Traditionally, the child is told of their identity as the Avatar on their sixteenth birthday (although the current Avatar, Aang, was told much earlier than this because of Fire Nation aggression).

  6. They are born regularly, and they do have parents. Once they reach 15 though they are taken from them to train, from what I gather. It's just that the spiritual powers of the avatar themselves just pass over...

  7. they are born like normal, and told of their gift at 15, however the newest avatar was an air nomad, and sepperated from his parents at birth
