  1. No it will not work in normal dvd player... you need Blu ray player for that...

  2. if blu ray dvds worked in a normal dvd player then do you think they would have made blu ray players in the first place...

  3. No,

...and is because Blu-Ray uses diferent laser wavelength than standard DVD...

also bit data transfer, disk capacity, etc.etc...

so, a Blu-Ray disc can only be played in a Blu-Ray player or Playstation 3

  4. No, they will not.

  5. Um, HD DVD was not backwards compatible at all in terms of the HD DVD disc playing in DVD players.

Just like Blu-ray Discs you needed an HD DVD player to play an HD DVD. The combo disc thing had terrible yields and most people can't stand flipper discs anyway.

All DVD's work on Blu-ray Disc players. All Blu-ray Discs work on Blu-ray players.

Much like you can't play a DVD on a CD player, you can't play a Blu-ray Disc on a DVD player.

  6. If they would then there would be no point in selling Blu-Ray players now would there?

  7. No Blu-Ray discs are not compatible with standard DVD players.  There was a competing format called HD-DVD that was designed to be backwards compatible, but earlier this year, the manufacturer Toshiba, pulled the plug on the project and allowed Bluray to become the new standard.  The best way to play Bluray in my opinion is to get a Playstation 3 system, as it is both a good bluray player and a decent video game console and reasonably priced.
