I have a question about Civil Service Exams

I need to know if anyone has taken a civil service exam for a state job. If so, on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was it. Also if anyone took the typing exam for the state, how did they do their grading? Was it based only on words per minute, or based on accuracy also? Thanks :)

  1. First of all the state civil service test is a breeze and begins with the mandatory typing test which is scored by the number of words per minute in a 5-minute period and the actual total accuracy rating in a percentage of typos at that typing speed.  Unfortunately, due to recent budgetary conflicts occurring in the State Legislature and the Governor over the budget, there's a freeze on all state positions at this time.

    Good Luck!

  2. I think it depends on your state and the actual job for which you are testing. I have taken several tests; one was pretty easy, as it was basic questions and common sense. I would rank it a 2. The other 2 were for higher level jobs and they were quite difficult. I would rank one of them an 8 and one a 9.  15 of us took one of these and only 7 passed, so it was not easy.  I was surprised I passed with a 90. The questions were very specific and detailed. I think you really have to look at the job and its requirements to get an idea. I believe the typing tests here test on accuracy and wpm (based on ads I have seen). The job description should tell you about the typing, if that is required, or give you a link that tells you how the test is structured.

There is not a hiring freeze in my state, but there are also not a whole lot of state jobs, either.
