I recently purchased Ocean Spray, Cranberry Juice. This one: http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/detail/611360b.jpg

I purchased it because Cranberry juice is good for treating Urinary Tract Infection. I was wondering how many glasses would I need to drink everyday and will it help to releive the terrible pain of UTI?

Any help will be much appriciated and serious answers, please.

  1. I don't think it helps UTI after the infection has set in for more than a day. Take that problem to the doctor and get some serious help there.

Then drink an 8 ounce glass of cranberry juice, not the cocktail, every day. It should help prevent the UTI from returning at all.

Pure cranberry is quite tart. I water it down a lot, like put that 8 ounces with the other 2 liters of water I am supposed to be drinking every day anyway. It helps to get all that down and is really refreshing.

Cranberry cocktail has too much sugar in it for me to love very much.

  2. It is better to go see your doctor. When I have had a UTI I always go to my doctor first and I also buy the cranberry capsules. Also drink losts of water.

  3. Depends on the actual concentration of the cranberry juice itself.

You'd be better of making your own,or just eating cranberries if the fruit juice is less than 10% by volume.

  4. You would need to drink like a jug a day. For a month.  So realistically, it does squat.  If you have a UTI infection you need to get it treated with medication, it's too late for cranberry juice.  BUT, what you can do is start drinking cranberry juice, like a glass a day, forever.  It will help prevent UTI's and give you a healthier urinary tract.  But buying enough juice could get expensive, so I would suggest you go to your drug store and buy the cheap store brand cranberry concentrate vitamin pills, no prescription needed.  I think you take one or two a day with a meal.  Pretty easy, cheaper and easier than the juice.  And since (and I'm assuming here since you asked the question) you have had a UTI once, you're now prone to get another one in the future.  But taking the cranberry pills everyday is a good way to avoid that.  Hope that helps!
