I have a question about Restaurant receipts???

When you go out to Restaurants,

is it standard procedure, when the waitress

gives you the receipt, to scratch out, or total

through the tip line, so that there is

no possibility that the waiter can put in

whatever they want?

Is this something people do, even when

you are at a Restaurant, and ordering

take out?

Even with the take out receipt, do you still

cross out the tip line, if you're not

giving any tips, so they can't put anything they

want in the line, or is that being untrustworthy

and unnecessarily suspicious of

the waiter and the Restaurant??

  1. never ever trust anyone who works in a restaurant. except the cook or the dishwasher

  2. i dont know but you raise a good question. star for you

  3. It is perfectly fine to cross out the tip line. Perhaps the majority of servers have enough ethics to not add a tip to a receipt, but you never know if you have someone who will write themselves a fat tip.

Some circumstances where you would not add a tip to the receipt: when gratuity has already been added (like in a large group); when you leave a cash tip; when you are in a situation where you wouldn't normally tip (like at Quizno's).

  4. Its perfectly possible. If all you do is sign it without writing a total or tip. Make sure you save your receipts! coz if it ever happesn to you, you have proof!

  5. I think it is fine to scratch thru the tip line and total your reciept before signing. You can't be to careful these days.

  6. They usually have a line for the tip and then a line for the total. if you just write the total in without anything added, what is the server going to do? Write in a tip for themselves, then scratch out the total and write in a new total with the tip added? You should always tip though, even for takeout. Who do you think took the time to bag everything, put napkins, silverware, ketchups, sides, etc.

  7. I too would scratch through that line if I stiffed my waiter your final receipt should show the final costs if  a server writes in whatever they wish this is  theft and I would demand to see a owner or management
