what is the difference and can you have both at the same time? When a doctor tells you its a kidney stone are they usually on the money or just guessing.

  1. usually they can tell .. they probably had you do a urinalysis and the calcuim levels will tell them that it is a stone vs and infection.. they can also do an ultrasound or ct to see the stones.. they can either break them up or wait for you to pass them either way is pretty painful.  If you get them a lot you may want to do a 24 hour urine called a stone battery and this will tell you what is causing the stones and you may need to change your diet.

  2. Usually they can tell for sure.  These links will give you more information about kidney stones.
