So my boyfriend just left for basic training last week and he is at Fort Jackson and he called me today for like 2 minutes and he told me he was in the Aplha Company and 1-34th infantry..but i still need his platoon and rank before i can send him a letter, im guessing his rank is either PVT(private) or BCT(basic combat training) im not sure but if anyone knows or has any idea please let me know!!! And i have no idea how to figure out his platoon if anyone knows anything about that also please let me know!! i think its between 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th platoon but im not sure!!! Oh and i was wondering if i sent a letter and it was the wrong platoon or something if they would read the name and find him to give it to him or if they would send it back to me?? thanks i appreciate it!

  1. Well, did he go in as anything other then a E-1 rank? It should be PVT.

I am pretty sure you need the right platoon or it won't go through.

  2. They can't withold mail from him.  Just put his name on there and mail it.  It WILL get to him.  But if it'll make you feel better put PVT on there, then his last name, and then his first name.

Not knowing his exact platoon is ok, it'll get to him

I agree w/Jackman - don't put anything too embarassing in the letter.  I've known of a few people who had to read their letter outloud.

  3. Wait until you will receive a letter from him with his new address and his example how you will write back.

  4. Why they need the platoon I will never know.

He is a Pvt, I can assure you of that!

Click on the link it has a picture.

Make sure you tell him you would like the platoon number.

If the Co. clerk cannot figure out which platoon he is in I will personally beat him with a 2x4

    SSG US Army 73-82

  5. His rank is Private which would be abbreviated PVT.

BCT is not a rank its the training program for new soldiers - commonly called boot camp.

If you send it to Alpha Company they can figure out which platoon he is in.  (There are usally only 4 platoons to a company.)

The address should look like this -

    PVT John Smith

    Alpha Company, 1-34 Infantry (BCT)

    Fort Jackson, SC  (Zip Code)

It is a federal law violation for a letter to be opened by someone other than the addressee but I still wouldn't put anything in there that would be embarassing to him.
