  1. The mother bird regurgitates a digested mix of seeds , worms , and bugs!! Later it is offered the live component of this food so it will know and find the real thing when it is able to be weaned!!!

  2. Blue Jays are omnivores, but eat a diet heavy in insects.  The parents do not regurgitate food, but offer them live insects.  Blue Jays are migratory birds, which are protected by federal law.  The US Fish and Wildlife service requires that they be cared for by a federally permitted rehabilitator.  Contact your department of natural resources for help in locating a permitted bird rehabilitator in your area.  Temporarily,  you can offer a couple of small pieces of cut up fruit (strawberries, blueberries, grapes) along with a high quality kitten chow (soften with water) every half an hour to an hour using tweezers from morning until nightfall.  This is not a long term diet to use, but it will provide adequate nutrition and hydration until you can get them to a rehabilitator.  Do not give drops of water as baby bird aspirate (get fluid in their lungs) very easily.
