I just bought my 8 year old 5 new outfits to start school with. I would not have bought her that much, but she has outgrown all her clothes this summer. Once we get all the back-to-school stuff done I can buy more as needed. I do need to buy her some jeans, but for now she has stretch pants that fit. She has sneakers that look good from right before school let out, so no new shoes yet.

I would buy 2-3 whole outfits, and then perhaps buy her a new shirt or pants each month since she is at an age that grows so rapidly.  That way she feels like she gets something new every month, and you don't have to buy a huge amount of new school stuff all at once.

My parents always bought me 5 shirts, 5 pants and 2 pairs of shoes, p.e shoes and just everyday regular tennis shoes. i had a new outfit for the first week of school.

If she doesn't have a uniform, just go with some basics. My mom used to make sure I had about 5-7 pairs of pants,10-12 shirts, a couple sweaters, a light jacket, and a fall/winter coat. I always had a pair of sneakers, a pair of casual shoes, and a pair of boots for winter.

i'm starting my daughter out with 7 outfits and 3 shoes she 10 well she will be in oct so she will also get 3 outfits for her birthday and then christmas is coming up so 7 outfits is good to start with
