Does anybody know of any piercing parlors in the Boston, Massachusetts area that will pierce catilage? I went to a Piercing Pagoda today and they turned me down for some reason. ): (plus........ i'v done a fair amount of research and discovered that piercing/tattooing parlors are the way to go................ not Claire's or Piercing Pagoda because the guns they use can carry disease and can damage the ear.is this true or is this nothing to worry about?) Thanks for the help. =)

  1. Just look for a clean tattoo parlor they usually do piercings as well and will gladly do your cartilage for you.

You are absolutely right about not going to places that use a gun.

They should never be used to pierce your cartilage or anything for that matter.

Good luck and enjoy your new piercing.

  2. Okay let's clear up everything....

I work at Claire's and I've done thousands of ear piercings.

I have personally gotten my cartilage done four times. With a gun. They have been fine.

As for getting it done, I would ask Claire's. Boston may have a law against cartilage piercings in a retail setting.

If it is banned in Boston, like everyone else asked just go to a tattoo parlor. The important thing is that you make sure they mark it well. Many tattoo parlors don't do a lot of ear piercings so they may not know exactly what they are doing.

    Good luck!

  3. You are definitely right about not going to Claires or any place that uses a gun. You need to go somewhere that will pierce it with a straight needle, which is what most tattoo places will use.

The reason is when anything is pierced with a gun, it makes a round hole in the front at the entrance, but at the exit site (the back of the piercing) it only makes a slit, not a completely round hole. When there is only a slit, piercings, especially cartilage piercings, have a hard time heeling. If it doesn't heel right, then you run the risk of infection or a large bump coming up on the exit site called a keloid. These have to be removed by a dermatologist and they are not pretty.

  4. piercing guns carry diseases like hepatitis because you cannot properly sterilize them. they are used over and over on every client they pierce, getting tiny bits of bacteria/disease on them that can be spread to you. plus, the jewelry they use pierces a hole and stretches the skin out, causing unnecessary pain and trauma to the area.

i would say South Boston Tattoo & Body Piercing Service Co in Dorchester, but you can just google it and look for other places.
