I have a question about dog tricks?

I saw a video where someone trained a dog to catch a ball with it's paws.

Does anyone have any idea how one would teach that?

I'm sure it depends on the dog.  It can probably be done, but most likely the dog in the video showed a natural interest and talent for it and so the owner kind of went with it.  I think it might be hard to otherwise communicate with the dog exactly what you want him to do.    

Different breeds are going to have more of a natural talent for certain types of tricks than others as well.
