I have a question about golfing..?

I have recently started learning golf. I have learned a total of 2 hrs and I am 15 years old. Well, the teacher I have been learning from told me that since I am tall (6 ft 3~4) I should keep my leg bent only a little, and only the back should try to reach for the ball. Also, the distance of my feet to the ball is really far so he told me to use my height as an advantage to drive far or etc... Well, my dad told me that I should step a little closer to the ball, and that I dont have to bend down much, and just hit the ball...He's a pro so he knows what he's talking about too. Well, this is my question. Is there actually a proper rule or way that I should hit the ball? Don't everyone have slight different style of hitting it? Does it matter how much I put my butt out or not, isn't it only just how good I can hit the ball? I want to know these questions. THank You

  1. If your dad is a pro - then he must be a good golfer - so I would listen to him and take his advice. Besides, it would be good for you to do stuff with your dad. If you are taller than normal, then you might want to get your clubs fitted so that they suit you. One of the benefits of being tall, is that you generate more club head speed so if your setup is perfect, then you will be able to hit the ball a long way... of course thats not why we play golf - but it certainly is the most fun part!!! Theres nothing I can tell you that your dad doesnt already know - so why go to someone else??

    Good luck and good golfing

  2. Why are you asking us if your dad is a golf pro? I dont believe you fool.

  3. This depends on how serious you are about golf.  If you are planning on playing golf competively then you should work on proper technique.  If your a weekend golfer, just get the basics and make solid contact, don't worry how the swing looks.

If you are serious, ask your club pro for lessons or just a few points to work on,(ex. stance, balance, grip)

  4. ok every pro has their own ideas of what is right and what is wrong. first you need to get your clubs lengthened. being that tall you need your clubs atleast an inch longer. maybe an inch and a half longer. about your stance. the best thing to do is what is comfortable. from what i have seen and have told people is it should be the basketball defensive stance. weight should be on your balls of your feet and shoulders directly above your knees. don't bend your knees too much and don't bend over too much. be comfortable. but first get the right length of clubs. you can either buy longer ones or get yours longer.
