my doctor told me if i dont go in labor by thursday she will start talking to me about inducing. whihc i dont want. been trying everything says that helps with labor but its up to the baby.. even talking to the baby he just doesnt want to come yet. anyways maybe every hospital is different but how does it work? like do i go thurs (if i dont go before) and they induce me at the doctor office n wait? do they give me a few days to see and tell me if nothing by the weekend to go to the hospital and they will induce me? will i have to wait days.. even weeks before they decide to send me to the hospital to get induced?

also when they induce me how long before things start to go? does it hurt more? will it make dilation go quicker? im not to afraid of anything but the pushing really like since this is my first im not sure how to push even though they explain it. i dont need an answer about pushing just about the inducing things.

btw im 39wks & 4days today

  1. Is there a reason she's going to start talking to you about inducing on your due date?  Inductions increase risks to both mother and baby.  It's not something you do without sound medical reason.  There is no reason for it to be routinely done before 42 weeks, unless there is some significant problem.

With an induction, you increase the risks of C-section, uterine hyperstimulation (contractions abnormally strong and/or long), increased postpartum blood loss (with oxytocin/pitocin), newborn jaundice (with oxytocin/pitocin), uterine rupture (with Cytotec), etc. An induction is not something you do unless there is a solid medical reason.

If there's no medical reason, I would just tell your doctor on Thursday that you're not ready to discuss an induction as you're only 40 weeks and 0 days.  She cannot make you get one; you have a right to refuse.  I could see her maybe discussing it at 41 weeks if she typically induces at 42 weeks, but discussing it on your due date is premature.

  2. I had a very pleasant induction & birth.

I got to the hospital around 6:30 am and started the IV meds (IDk what was given to me, Im guessing pitocin) and I was already 4 cm. At 7:13 am the doctor broke my water. Around 8:45-9:00 am I got the epidural (7-8 cm) and at 9:55 am I had my beautiful baby boy!! Mine went very quickly & smoothly but I have heard horror stories.

  3. I was induced at 39 weeks by choice and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  I went in at midnight, got hooked up to the normal IVs then the nurses checked my cervix.  They inserted a tiny pill like thing that ripened the cervix so it could dilate.  At about 5am they started me on pitocin (the drug they use to start the contractions, which was just on a drip through my IV) Shortly after that I was having contractions and my cervix was dilating.  My water had not broken yet, so they decided to break my water.  At this point, my contractions were getting pretty painful. (Pitocin makes your contractions MUCH stronger).  It was time for my epidural, which I recommend to everyone!  It did not hurt at all and the second I got it, all the pain went away.  At 2:48pm, after pushing for maybe 30 minutes I delivered a beautiful, healthy baby girl.  I had a wonderful labor and delivery.  I wasn't in any pain at all and I wasn't out of it at all.  I got to hold my baby the second she came out and she wasn't out of my sight once after.  Some people frown upon being induced and epidurals, but everything is perfectly safe, do you think the hospital would do it if not??  Good Luck and have a wonderful and safe delivery!

  4. i would go thursday and ask them if they can let you go another week and if the baby dosnt come then induce unless there is a medical reason why they have to induce early if thats the case i would do it for the babys sake good luck hun go the eppie if it hurts to much

  5. Well they put you in a pregnancy room and then they give you this pill that takes a few hours or so to kick in and it helps you dilate and then later on like 7 hours or so after the pill kicks in you may have a happy healthy baby....but my bro's ex had to take the pill  and later that day she went bathroom and it came out ....so she just had to dilate the rest of the way and eventually at like 7 pm she had a healthy baby! =D i hope i helped to make you feel better [[oh and when you push you just have to push like your pooping XD =) ]] [[[the time also depends on how much the baby is dilated]]] [[[[good luck and god bless!!]]]]

  6. they will just give you medicine in a tube, usually they wait until you a week late before they do that.walk a lot, or eat a half a watermelon.thats how i went in to labour.

  7. I was induced with my 1st child it wasn't a bad experience at all. I went in at 2:00pm and she was born at 8:15 am but i had not dilated at all. My next child was not induced and the level of pain or discomfort was no different. I went to the hospital to be induced. I can tell you to walk walk walk before and if u have a partner sexual intercourse really helped things move with my youngest. I went from no dilation to 2 hrs later a baby was born.  GOOD LUCK!
