When a child is adopted does the adopted parents get paid from the State or Government every month for adopting the child?Someone sent me an e-mail with legal papers attached saying the only time someone gets paid is if it is a guardianship, but I don't know how legal that paper work was.So if it is just a guardianship does that mean the bialogical mother and father still have the rite to get the child back?I am waiting on hearing from an attorney but its taking a long time and I would like to really know,if you could give me any help on this matter It would be very appreciated.

  1. In certain instances, when adopting through county or state child welfare agencies, adoptive parents are offered a monthly stipend, similar to that of foster care. I dont think it's common but I know of a few cases

  2. If a child has been removed by the state from their biological family and placed into the custody (guardianship) of someone else, as in a foster care setting, they will receive a subsidy from the state to care for that child.  If the guardianship is not through the state (i.e. a grandparent caring for a grandchild) then the guardian would only get paid if it were in the arrangement with the biological parents.  The state would not pay.

When adopting, you can SOMETIMES get a subsidy from the state even after the adoption is completed.  In order to qualify, the child usually has to be "special needs", i.e. with health issues or an older child, sibling group, etc.

  3. A great resource of adoption laws and regulations listed by state is http://www.findmybiologicalparents.com

  4. If the child is in the foster care system the guardians (or foster parents) would be paid. A child ends up in foster care through abuse and/or neglect.

The government does not pay monthly for an adopted child. There may be special programs to assist with the costs of adopting older or special needs children in the child welfare/foster care system.

For children in foster care the court is the legal guardian. There is a process of permanently terminating parental rights for the bio parents, but it differs from state to state.

  5. parents do not get paid by the gov't once they have adopted a child
