i can only speak to your third and fourth question. I went from the midwest to teach in a wealthy town in Connecticut. It has generally been a great experience. A beautiful town with its own beach, supportive parents, an intellectually diverse faculty. I worked with high IQ students for 10 years and we could go into NYC for field trips anytime something interesting came up. Students got to go backstage on Broadway, meet Nobel Prize winners, volunteer to clean up Central Park, etc. I could put on Shakespeare plays and develop my own courses to teach. Of course, it was expensive to live there and there are always some problems with an administration too willing to appease parents, but I think I made a great choice.
