I have a question about my 2 year old toddler.?

My son does not chew his food. He automatically puts it in his mouth and swallows. I have been trying real hard to teach him to chew but it does not seem like it is sinking in his head. I tell him to chew, show him how to chew and he still puts it in his mouth and swallows. Should I be worried about his? How long do you think it will take for him to actually chew his food?

He has to see someone do it and maybe learn from watching. Tell him that if he doesn't chew his food he won't get anymore ,let him cry for a minute then show him again then start back over again. you have to be persistent or it won't work. He should have learned to do this at about 5 to 6 months. That is very dangerous. Try not to give him foods that he can choke on. Good Luck!

hmm hard to say, my son used to overstuff his mouth as a toddler and then gag. we just kept trying to teach him. put smaller portions in front of him, so he's not worried about his next bite before his done with the one in his mouth.

i dont remember when he learned , but he did LOL

My daughter is 19 months and sometimes I swear that her mouth is a direct port to her stomach, she does the same thing with soft foods. But we always let her watch us take a bite and chew while she's waiting for her bite of what we're eating, and she usually chews stuff that needs to be chewed. Hanging out with other kids can help, my daughter doesn't get to do it a lot, but when she does she picks up 3 and 4 skills at a time, lol.  Good luck!

I have the exactly opposite situation. My 18 month old keeps on chewing the food for 5 minutes and when she is done she takes it out of her mouth and does not swallow. She does eat her food but sometimes she just keeps chewing without swallowing!!
