I have gotten her used to puree foods because when I try to give her foods that she has to chew, she just swallows it. Now when she was 11 months she used to chew when I would give her something that she could chew (what I have her was a kiwi swashed but with a little bit of chunks). Now she is 2 and she hates to chew. I thought chewing food was something natural to do. I am streesed out. I do not know why she is not chewing food. She is growing normally but the only thing that she is not doing is chewing food. Is this a seriuos problem?

  1. I'd try talking to her doctor.  Until then I would try to give her really small soft food and make sure you keep an eye on her when she is eating.  Try soup and applesauce and mashed potatoes.   Good luck

  2. Why should she chew when you will give her pureed food? Give her a normal 2 year old diet and let her eat or not. Won't take long she will chew and enjoy it too.

  3. The reason she doesn't chew is that she doesn't know how.  She doesn't remember how.  You should not have been giving her pureed foods this long.  Frankly I don't know what to tell you other than to take her to the doctor/nutritionist, maybe they can give you some instructions on how to progress

My kids were on solid foods at two.

  4. well, first of all, if you continue to puree her food, she wont start chewing. at two years old, she should be able to stab her food with a fork and feed herself. give her chunks of food, nothing pureed. she wont like it at first, but she will get used to it.

  5. Speak to your doctor about this.  This could be a sign of something not developing right.  You never know but it would be better to know for sure then to keep worrying about it.  My daughter started noticing issues with our grandchild & it turns out that he has autism.  Check it out!

  6. Could be a developmental delay; talk to your pediatrician - they should have tracked her development.

  7. wow!! lol. i think i stopped giving my daughter pureed foods a long time ago. i think you should ask her docotr, also. i have a 2 year old daughter and she eats what we eat.

ive never seena  kid who doesnt like to chew! im not sure how much of a problem it is, however i dont think its good. so talk to her doc.

    good luck!

  8. Is there a reason you pureed her foods for so  long?
