Okay Im 25 weeks pregnant and for months now in the opening where the milk comes out I have this white stuff in the whole that is kinda hard I can take it out but it hurts kinda. Does anyone know what that is? When I was like 13 or 14 I had that happen a few times but now that Im pregnant its constant. Its been there for months, If I take it out it grows back. This is a little embarrasing but I have no clue what it is. Would it have to do with milk production?

  1. This is colostrum. Its your first milk and extremely important for your baby to get. You won't really have actual milk until your baby is born but you will leak colstrum. Just stay clean and if you leak bad enough then buy nursing pads and use those.

  2. Well you wont get milk leakage yet because your milk only drops after the baby is born. Its colostrum. Its leaking out slowly, drying and hardening. If I were you, dont mess with it too much. You dont want to stimulate the milk to get started early. So for now, use a warm damp washcloth and gently remove it. Then talk to your doctor the next time you see him about it. Dont be embarrassed.

  3. It is completely normal!  Your body is getting ready to produce milk and though it is not producing enough to leak, there is a little.  It very slowly eases out and dries.  The first milk, Colostrum, is very thick so at the slow rate it leaks, you don't notice it being wet.  If it hurts to pick at it, don't.  There is no problems leaving it there.  It is kind of like a crust preventing leaks until full milk production comes in.  Most women have it when pregnant, but they just don't ever pick at it so they don't notice it is there.  Good Luck and congrats!

  4. Well, leaking from the breast is normal but I'm not sure about it being "hard" and "hurting" and after you "take it out it grows back". I think you should go to you doctors and get this checked out.

    I don't think its normal.

  5. Are you sure it is not just leakage that has dried up?  It can dry and become crusty.

  6. Without seeing it I couldn't say for sure but the most likely thing is the beginning of your milk production .taking it out is not a good idea; you could damage your nipples or stimulate preterm labour in extreme cases. It could however be an infection so Iwould reccomend a trip to the doc

  7. I would call your Dr.
