I went to the doctor and they told me I had a heart murmur, she said it was innocent but still ordered me to get an echocardiogram just to have it looked at, I often feel tired and my fingers turn blue and are cold is that because of my murmur? I also like to run when I excerise, should I give up running because of my murmur? Will it make it worse? Thanks!

  1. A heart murmur is no more than a oddity in the sound of your heart beat. Any heart problem could cause it, even ones that won't effect you. You shouldn't change anything because of a murmur. Wait until you know what is causing the murmur before you start making lifestyle changes. The echo should tell your doctor what you need to know.

  2. You may feel tired and fingers turn blue because you are anemic.  If you have a functional heart murmur like myself then you don't have to give up running, just listen to your body, if you get the pounding pulse sensation to your head then you know you have done too much.  Always do deep breathing when you are running, breath through nose and exhale through your mouth.  Just keep your doctors appointment, if it's a pin size heart murmur it may close by itself.
