We are adopting a new kitty tommorrow. She is precious! Her eyes are two diff. colors and someone told me that means she could go blind later. Does anyone know whether this is true or not?

  1. Just to comment on the first comment (lol) a kitty may be blind if she has white fur AND blue eyes, in some cats if they have white fur and 2 different colored eye (called odd eyed) liek green and blue, the green side is usually normal but the blue side is almost alwayse blind (and or deaf sometimes) I know that there is one breed (I forgo tthe name) that has natural white fur and blue eyes and are not deaf or blind.

  2. Thats the cuttest kitty I've seen in a long time!

    But back to the eyes...

All it means is if your cat is pure breed or not

A "solid blue" is blue-gray all over. It may be a dark slate gray, a medium gray, or a pale ash gray. This color is also sometimes called "maltese." This is the color of the Russian Blue, Chartreux, and Korat, but it can appear in almost any other breed as well, and is also seen in non-purebreds. Solid blue does not indicate that a cat is related to any of these breeds.

A "solid white" is white all over. Sometimes white cats have blue eyes, sometimes they have green or gold eyes, and sometimes one eye is blue and one eye is green or gold! This last color is called "odd-eyed white."

  3. Your new kitty is gorgeous!  First off, if she was a 'show' cat or a purebred, she would be called an odd eyed white (whatever breed she is)  She looks like a turkish angora!  Secondly, there is little likelihood that she will be blind.  Blue eyed cats are more apt to have the eye problems and often times the gene for deafness is associated with blue eyed white cats (not the siamese based breeds tho obviously)  So don't worry about her - just love her and take good care of her and she'll give you years of joy!!

  4. that is the breed, Persian i think? or is it Siamese?you will have to do some research. i know it is common, but i forget if it is bad.

take kitty to a vet before you adopt, they will know. they can also identify the breed, so you can do you own research.

there is nothing wrong with a blind house cat. once it learns the house, it doesnt need its eye to get around, it will follow scents. it also has hearing which is like radar. not only will it hear you in another room, it can tell what door the sound came through,so it will go through that door, instead of bumping into the wall.

cats dont see that well anyways.

  5. OMG shes adorable!! I doubt that she will go blind it looks to me that she is a healthy kitten anyways. I have been searching through the internet and it seems that it is possible for the kitten to go blind but i wouldn't worry about it too much.

  7. She is adorable!  I have heard that as well but not sure if there is any truth to it.  I have also heard that all white cats are prone to being deaf.  I wouldn't worry about any of that too much, just love and enjoy her.  Best of luck!

  8. Very good question... in most white cats with different colored eyes, usually the side with the "blue" eye is deaf!  I don't believe there's any link to eye-color and blindness, however it's likely your kitten is partially deaf.  Although since she doesn't know any different, it shouldn't hamper her in any way.
