If a retailer lives in a state with 7% statewide sales taxes and a city with 8% sales and use tax, what tax rate would he/she charge a customer whose having goods shipped to a city with a 7.75% sales tax rate?

  1. Generally if you buy online or mail order from a company in another state you will pay no sales tax at all, unless that company has stores or facilities in YOUR state. But you are supposed to declare this in April on your own state income tax, and pay the sales tax to YOUR state. (I'm sure you will do that).


  2. Depends.  In KS  we have destination based taxing.  We are supposed to charge and collect the tax of the desintation city, unless the purchaser comes into our location to buy the material - then we charge the sales tax at this location.  Depends on the laws in the retailers state.

  3. 15%. the state and the city add together.
