I have a question about starting an intentional community?

I was thinking of registering the intentional community as a non profit organization so that i could apply for a free crown land grant to get some free land to build the community on, i figure the community will start out as an Eco-Village and then expand as more people want to live in the community, my question is this "Is it possible for a community to be considered as a non profit organization?"

P.s i'm from British Columbia, Canada if that makes any difference.

  1. There are a number of Eco-Villages around Vancouver island but most of these are spiritual new age Eco-Villages, most of them are registered non profit organizations who have classes on Ecological building methods that they offer to anyone who wants to learn, i went to this one and learnt how a cob house is built and how to build straw bale houses, you should ask people in motion about helping you get the proper forms so you can get started, here is a link to a homeless squat in the U.S.A. that has become a community but they don't own any land.

  2. probably not.

consider the kibbutz in israel is largely dead.

there are some, but not like they were 20-30 years ago.

and they had a common national purpose to maintain them.
