alright, so I am thinking of majoring in Early Childhood education. I am and have always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. But! I was just curious as to how things work with teaching. Like, do the schools tell you what to teach and how to? Likedo they tell you to do a certain worksheet for math? Or do you have to figure it out yourself? Im just curious.

  1. so you have a book it has everything that the students need

to learn.you look at the book, see what the have to learn and teach it to the kindergarten children.here's a tip don't yell at

    them, they might cry.

  2. no, for the most part you are not given anything.

There are state standards - these describe the curriculum that is taught at every grade level. For an example - see Californias:

    http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/mthmain.a...

We then decide on the pacing, the order and how to assess the kids to make sure they are meeting the standards. The individual lessons and activities come from those decisions. You decide it all - it is alot of planning.

Now you will be getting some help in all this:

Often, a district will provide a pacing plan and suggested curriculum - some districts have mandated curriculum where they decide most of the things for you - many teachers have issues with these. At times you will decide these things in groups of other teachers - grade level or departments.

activities such as worksheets: The web is one of the last places to look. A)Textbook companies often give you software that allows you to print out specific problem sets - B)teacher supply stores specialize in books that have these things in them - C)teachers will often make their own.

  3. Let's say it's required that Kindergarten needs to learn how to tell time.

HOW you teach them about clocks & time can be figured out by you. You can decide to get a clock and bring it into the classroom. You can search the internet for worksheets about time.

The school system will have a list of things that K students need to know and YOU will have to cover that information in any creative way that you want to.

If you go to school to become a teacher, and get a teaching job, you will have co-workers who will be able & willing to help you find all this stuff.

  4. first off...definately take ece it is an amazing program and so worth the time!!!

second, im pretty sure what they do is they give you guidelines of what the curriculum needs to be within your classroom, what u have to teach them at a certain time, and they will probably suggest the best ways to do that. but from there on its your job to plan and how to teach that to the children.

a word of advice...(u will learn this if u take ece)

although there is a curriculum you need to follow for school, try and make it not just based on themes...make it based on what the children are interested at the time.

put it this way if you are a kid and you like dogs, but your teacher is trying to teach you about dinosaurs, but you dont care about them...are you really going to listen?

make it fun and educational for the kids believe me! they will love it and enjoy the classroom environment so much more

    good luck!

  5. You will have standards in each subject that you are required to cover during the year.  Each school has a set curriculum that you will be required to follow.  Usually each school has a series of text books in each subject area.  You have to decide what to teach in what order and how you want to teach each standard.  That may mean a project, and craft, a worksheet etc.  That is the stuff you have to figure out for yourself.
