(My favorite baseball team is Minnesota Twins)..

We lost a game against the Chicago White Sox who are in first place..we play another game tonight at 7:10..

Apparently White Sox has played 1 more game then us..

Currently we are 1 & 1/2 games out..

I don't really get how 1 game behind = 1/2 game..

Could someone explain?

  1. Yes becasue you have played one game less than whitesox. yet we dont know the out come of this game. So instead of being two games out they are 1 1/2  If the win tonight thye will be out 1/2 game. Becasue chicago will still have played one more game.

  2. When it says 1/2 game it means that the White Sox played one more game than the Twins

  3. Basically, when comparing two teams in the standings, add a half game for each win above the other that one team has and subtract a half game for each loss.

The twins have 60 wins, Chicago 59.  that's one half game up for the twins.

Twins have 46 losses, Chicago 48.  That's a one game advantage to the Twins

Add them up to get the 1.5 games.

Now if you have more time I'll explain the magic number calculations.
