I recently purchased a Sliver Deck from a hobby shop near my home and came across a question I couldn't exactly find a clear answer for in the MTG (Magic The Gathering) Comprehensive Rulebook PDF. I have an Enchantment Aura called "Spirit Loop", which states, "Enchant Creature You Control; Whenever Enchanted Creature Deals Damage, You Gain That Much Life. When Spirit Loop Is Put Into A Graveyard From Play, Return Spirit Loop To It's Owner's Hand".

So my question is, if I enchant one of my creatures (Let's say a 5/5) with "Spirit Loop" and attack a 2/2 creature (Assuming the 5/5 and the 2/2 can meet in combat) would I still gain 5 life even though the creature that blocked my 5/5 was a 2/2?

Thank you in advance for your help. :o)

  1. yes you will gain that much life.  The only way you won't gain life is if the damage is prevented.

  2. yeah you gain +5 life.

  3. You will gain 5 life. The amount of life you win is equal to the damage dealt regardless from the creature toughness.

  4. yes you gain 5 life. think about it like this. theres someone you hate and it takes 2 bullerts to kill them, however you have 5. even though they die after the 2nd bullet, you still damage them with the last 3 (its overkill)

the only way you get that life is if the damage is prevented or the blocker has 5 or more attack and has first strike
